Terms and Conditions

Effective date: July 16, 2026 · Last updated: July 16, 2026

Please read these Terms and Conditions ("Terms") before using the WPW Detector website and demonstration tool ("the Service"). By using the Service, and in particular by uploading an electrocardiogram for analysis, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

  1. 1What the Service is, and what it is not
  2. 2No medical advice, no professional relationship
  3. 3Acceptable use

  5. 5No warranty

1What the Service is, and what it is not

The WPW Detector is a machine learning research project and a screening demonstration. It analyzes a 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) and returns a suspicion level from 1 to 100 for Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) pre-excitation, together with an explanation of the signal features that influenced the result.

The Service is not, and must not be treated as:

  • a medical diagnosis,
  • a medical device approved or cleared by any regulator,
  • a clinically validated tool,
  • a substitute for examination, testing, or advice by a qualified health professional,
  • a basis for any medical, treatment, or life decision.

The suspicion level is a research output. It is a rank, not a probability, and it can be wrong in both directions: it can raise a false alarm on a normal ECG, and it can miss genuine cases. Its performance was measured on a small number of confirmed cases, and the confidence intervals around its results are wide. All of this is described openly on the site.

2No medical advice, no professional relationship

Using the Service does not create a doctor-patient relationship, and does not create any professional or advisory relationship of any kind. The Service does not provide medical advice.

If you have any concern about your heart or your health, consult a qualified health professional. If you think you may be experiencing a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services immediately. Never disregard professional medical advice, or delay seeking it, because of something this Service showed you.

3Acceptable use

By using the Service, you agree that:

  • you will only upload an ECG that belongs to you, or one that you are explicitly authorized to submit;
  • you will not upload another person's health information without their informed consent;
  • you will not use the Service to attempt to identify, profile, or make decisions about another person;
  • you will not attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer, scrape, or attack the Service or the servers it runs on;
  • you will not use the Service for any unlawful purpose.

You are responsible for what you choose to upload.

4Your responsibility for uploaded data

You decide whether to upload an ECG. The Service processes it transiently and does not store it, as described in the Privacy Policy. You remain responsible for ensuring that you have the right to submit whatever file you upload, and for any consequences of uploading data that is not yours or that you were not authorized to share.

5No warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without any warranty of any kind, whether express or implied. In particular, there is no warranty that:

  • the suspicion level is accurate, complete, or reliable for any purpose,
  • the Service will be available, uninterrupted, or error-free,
  • any result is fit for a medical or clinical use.

This is a research and educational project run by an individual, not a commercial medical product.

6Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the person operating the Service will not be liable for any harm, loss, or damage of any kind arising from, or connected to, your use of the Service or your reliance on its results, including any medical, health, financial, or other decision made on the basis of a suspicion level. You use the Service at your own risk.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or limit any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

7Intellectual property

The research, the code, the models, and the content of this site are the work of the project's author. The source code is published openly for transparency and verification. Publishing the code does not transfer ownership, and does not grant you the right to present the work as your own. Any use of the code is governed by the license shown in the project's public repository.

8Availability and changes

The Service may be changed, suspended, or discontinued at any time, without notice. It runs on free or low-cost hosting and is not guaranteed to remain online. These Terms may also be updated; when they change meaningfully, the "Last updated" date above will change and the new version will be posted on this page.

9Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in the Province of Quebec, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute relating to the Service will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Quebec, to the extent permitted by law.

These Terms are written in plain language on purpose. The single most important point is simple: this is a research demonstration, not a diagnosis. For anything concerning your health, talk to a qualified health professional.

The purpose

A project with a purpose beyond the data

The Montreal Children's Hospital is where I was followed for years, and where I was finally treated. If this project speaks to you, you can support the hospital directly, for the next kid sitting where I sat.
